Vendredi 23 mai
Recital for two cellos
20h30
On the cellos: Auguste Rahon and Clément Stauffenegger

Reflecting the unique architecture of the Château de Thézan, the programme for this concert will take us through different eras of the cello repertoire.

We will explore the sonata genre of the 18th century. The richness of the Italian music of Vivaldi, Lanzetti and Geminiani will be contrasted with the French style of their contemporary Jean-Baptiste Barrière.

We'll also take a trip back to the 19th century, where lyricism and virtuosity go hand in hand with Offenbach, a famous operetta composer who was also a brilliant cellist; Franchomme, a French cellist who was a close friend and dedicatee of Chopin; and a few surprises from Fauré and Paganini.

Originally from Reims and Avignon respectively, Auguste Rahon and Clément Stauffenegger became friends during their musical careers.

They met in Augustin Lefebvre's class at the Lyon Conservatoire, and then followed each other to the Haute École de Musique de Genève-Neuchâtel, where they were taught by Denis Severin, David Pia and Bruno Cocset on baroque cello.

Auguste then joined the Paris Opera Academy, and Clément is currently studying for a Master's degree in baroque cello at the Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris in Christophe Coin's class.
